Black History Month at Newham Music

This October half term we’re focussing on Black History Month, celebrating Black British artists and exploring the rich traditions of African and Caribbean culture.
We kick off the week with Music & Chill, presented by singer Toni-Tones. Come and enjoy live music, great performances and light bites, all connected to the theme of Black History Month.

Come and have a go on an instrument you used to play or have always wanted to try. Or do you already play and need a quiet space? Bring your instrument and take advantage of our practice booths.

We explore the rich traditions of African and Caribbean culture through music, stories, and crafts. Through hands-on activities and immersive storytelling, children will gain a deeper understanding of the beauty, diversity, and strength of African and Caribbean cultures.
For ages 5-8 and their families
Monday 28 October, 1.30-3.30pm
In collaboration with the Sickle Cell Society, Newham Music songwriters will create a space for self-expression through music and words. The session aims to provide an outlet for young people affected by sickle cell to share their experiences while also raising awareness about the condition.
For ages 12-25
Tuesday 29 October, 1.30-4.30pm
Gig School is back and this time we’re celebrating black British artists who are greatly contributing to the UK music landscape. Come along to meet and jam with other musicians, gain experience playing in a band, and perform together in Newham Music’s Open Mic.

Thursday 31 October, 11am-7.30pm
Join Newham Music’s Studio Sessions team to make a mixtape this half term! Across the day, you will create, compose, and record your own ideas and lyrics.
