Cultural Education Challenge
26 October 2015
Arts Council England launched The Cultural Education Challenge, a new initiative to ensure that all children and young people have access to cultural education.
Newham Music is delighted to be part of this ground-breaking scheme and Creative Schools Programme, starting this year, as member of the East London Cultural Education Partnership led by Barbican Centre.
The Cultural Education Challenge is a call-out to the arts, culture and education sectors to work together to offer high-quality cultural education for all children and young people throughout the country. Through the challenge, Arts Council England want to make sure that all children and young people have the opportunity to create and participate in arts and culture activities from making music to attending the theatre, in and outside of school. Tom Kerstens, Newham Music’s CEO, had this to say,
“We are thrilled to be part of the exciting East London Cultural Education Partnership, and the Creative Schools programme, to ensure that high-quality cultural education is available to all children and young people throughout the borough.”
The East London Cultural Education Partnership (ELCEP) is made up of over 20 cultural organisations including Newham Music, Barbican Centre, the Foundation for Future London, Stratford Circus, Bow Arts, Stratford Rising and LB Barking & Dagenham Community Music Service to name a few. The Cultural Education Challenge is an Arts Council England initiative run by A New Direction. The ELCEP’s Creative Schools programme will run from 2015 – 2018, initially in Newham and Barking & Dagenham.
