From 17-21 June, enjoy a series of free concerts at Newham Music Hub: Westfield Stratford City, at 1-1.45pm and 4-4.45pm daily.

Zayn Mohammed – Solo Turkish Instruments   

 An intimate concert of heart-felt solo performances, on rarely heard instruments such as the North-Indian plucked lute – the Sarode, the Central-Asian Lute – the Ud, the Turkish reed-flute – the Ney and the instrument as played by the much beloved sufi saint, Mevlana Muhammad Celaluddin Rumi – a Turkish Spike fiddle known as the Rebab. Music inspired by musical traditions such as; Black-American classical music (Jazz), North-African Folk music (Gnawa) North-Indian Classical Music (Khyal), Central-Asian & Azeri crossover music (Mugham) & sufi music (mystical, devotional) traditions.

 

About Zayn Mohammed

Zayn Mohammed is an award winning guitarist and a multi-instrumentalist, composer & producer from London, UK. Graduating from Berklee College of Music USA, Zayn has performed all over the globe with some of the finest musicians in the world-jazz and sufi-music traditions. Mentored by jazz piano legend, Ahmad Jamal & master Turkish ney player Robin Stuart, Zayn also plays guitar for award winning, London jazz pianist extraordinaire – Robert Mitchell in his group “True Think”. Zayn began his musical journey starting with the suzuki system of learning violin at age 2, quickly  moving to flamenco guitar at age 3, eventually turning to jazz-fusion by age 12. Zayn performs live and gives masterclasses all over the UK. Some of the instruments in his repertoire include; flamenco guitar, electric guitar, Arabic oud & Turkish Ud, Sarode, Afghan Rubab, Turkish Rebab, Turkish Ney, Frame Drum (Daf/Bendir), Percussion & Bass. Outside of performing his own music, Zayn has composed and performed scores for award winning short films & produces music for various musical artists, most often in the world jazz styles.
