E15 Jazz Sessions
February 16, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm
£10E15 Jazz Sessions showcase live contemporary jazz from a mix of established international musicians and bright new talent in Stratford’s regular jazz night.
Kicking off the Spring season of Jazz Sessions this February is a Vocal Rumble! This performance battle brings together two of London’s heavyweight vocal voyagers for a night of evocative exploration of jazz, world music and beyond.
In one corner is virtuoso vocalist and composer Cleveland Watkiss, who brings to Stratford his larger than life stage presence and highly original scatting. His amazing vocal experiences have seen him perform with many diverse artists from around the world such as the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dusseldorf Symphony Orchestra, Wynton Marsalis, Bob Dylan, Jackie Mittoo, and Keith Richards.
Opposite Watkiss is multi-vocal instrumentalist Randolph Matthews, whose flawless and world-class jazz reputations spans over two decades. His jazz blues and folk-inspired music is similar to the vocal finesse of Bobby McFerrin, Gregory Porter and Jacob Collier in skill and delivery. Performing and recording as an unaccompanied vocalist, he has collaborated with artist from both the jazz and contemporary music scene such as Herbie Hancock , Richard Bona, Grace Jones and will.i.am.
