Music CAN Pay the Bills!

Pathways into the music industry 

Our Careers Evening is a chance for young people to meet and hear from people who are earning a living through music.

The event aims to help Newham’s young people find out about the music industry and plot their creative journey.

The evening will include:

  • guest speakers from the music industry
  • information about local and national opportunities
  • workshops in music production and preparing for an audition
  • performances from Newham Music Academy students

The partner organisations attending include Guildhall School of Music and Drama, University of East London, National Youth Jazz Collective, Sound and Music, Sadler’s Wells Academy Breakin’ Convention, UD, Abram Wilson, EFDSS National Youth Folk Ensemble, Royal Corps of Army Music and Create Define Release.

Timetable: 

4pm – exhibition opens

4.15pm – Studio Sessions workshops begin (ongoing through evening, limited space)

4.30pm – How to Prepare for an Audition

5.10pm – Newham Music Jazz Collective performance

5.25pm – Panel Discussion: Music CAN Pay the Bills! with Mercy Welbeck, Nayana.AB, Rebecca Milford, Ron Hector, RYBES and Steve Reece

6.40pm – Bridging Sounds Orchestra performance

7pm – exhibition closes

Who? For young people at secondary school / college who are interested in a career in the music industry, plus their parents/guardians. (Parents/guardians must be accompanied by a young person!)
