24, 26, 28, 29 August 2024

Develop your songwriting craft with singer-songwriter and Newham Music educator Emma Scarr!

During this four-day course, Emma and guest songwriters – Rob Corcoran, Simon Stanley-Ward and Gabrielle Chudi – will give you starting points for writing lyrics, creating melodies and making chord patterns.

If you already have experience of songwriting, you can bring existing song ideas and work on them with the group. On the final day, you will have the opportunity to record your new song and perform in an informal open mic. Choose from one day or the whole course. We recommend attending all four sessions!

Feedback from participants of our Spring Songwriting course:

“A big thank you to Emma and Simon for unearthing my songwriting gene”

“I really enjoyed the workshops and can’t believe how it’s moved me forward, you’ve really lit my fuse!”

“It gave me inspiration and helped get my focus back on crafting a song, which was what I was hoping.”

For over 18s. All experiences welcome. Pay what you can.

Emma Scarr is an award-winning songwriter currently recording her 10th album of self-penned songs.

“Her songs have an unassumingly raw and direct character that derives as much from her plain-spoken writing as from the at times harsh and unforgiving local environment in which her stories and observations are set”  FOLK AND ROOTS

“Emma is one of the best songwriters around. Her lyrics hover in perfect synchronisation over the right chords telling us what we need to know in the way we need to know.” THE LANTERN SOCIETY
