You Called, We Came is a Newham Music and Vital Arts project celebrating the Windrush Generation and their positive impact on London and the NHS.

Inspired by Newham Music’s Windrush 75 learning resource, school choirs and Newham Music’s Junior Repz Choir have learnt songs including London is the Place for Me by Windrush passenger Lord Kitchener, Jamaican folk song Dis Long Time Gal, and You Called, We Came – a song about the experience of coming to England in 1948 to rebuild the NHS.

Vital Arts has organised a series of workshops for children on the Rainbow Ward at Newham Hospital, led by Newham Music’s vocal teachers. The project has also helped to relaunch Newham Hospital’s staff choir.

The performance at Newham Hospital will feature the hospital staff choir and local school choirs
