Festival of Youth Kicks Off!

28 June 2019

Newham Music expands its annual Festival of Youth this year to include two weeks of music workshops, concerts, and premieres between Monday 1 July and Thursday 11 July.

Nearly 2,000 children and young people from 45 different school groups will take part in 20 performances and interactive concerts over the course of the Festival. The Festival will include the premiere and school tour of the brand-new OperaUpClose production of Peace at Last based on the popular children’s book by Jill Murphy; the Newham Grooves Play Day which will see 100 young musicians coming together to learn, play and perform together; three days of Newham Harmony massed-singing workshops and performances; a day of interactive exploratory concerts for schools and a finale showcase concert highlighting the young musical talent from across the borough.

Newham Harmony is the borough’s massed-singing initiative working with over 20 schools through a programme of joint workshops and performances. Newham Harmony schools will show off their hard work at evening concerts alongside resident choir NewYVC at Stratford Circus on the 8-10 July.

The Festival of Youth Finale Concert on Thursday 11 July celebrates the inspiring talent from across the borough including the award-winning community opera, Full Circle, written and performed by the young people of Newham. A variety of music will be provided from the Newham Music Bridging Sounds Orchestra, a joint performance from the Music Unlocked Orchestra and Ambition, Aspire, Achieve, the Manor Primary Learning through Music Choir, Newham Music Academy guitarist Rojus Chalitovas, and special guest choir NewYVC. It will be a musical celebration for all of Newham.

Tickets for Newham Harmony and the Festival Finale are £3 in advance or £5 on the door and are available to purchase through the Stratford Circus website, stratford-circus.com. For more information, please contact the Newham Music office by email at info@newham-music.org.uk or on 020 3598 6260.
