Trumpet and cornet

The fanfare call of a trumpet is one of the most exciting sounds in music. The trumpet is the highest of all the brass instruments and the one you’ll see most often.

But hang on… what’s this about the cornet?

The cornet is almost identical to the trumpet, but makes a slightly mellower sound. That’s down to the way the metal is shaped. Because the metal is bent around in a different way, it’s also smaller and lighter, so a lot of people begin on the cornet – and it’s easier to make a sound.

We teach the trumpet in schools across the borough and at Newham Music Academy, our after-school and Saturday music centre. To enquire about lessons please email info@newham-music.org.uk or call us on 020 3598 6260.
