Bass guitar
The bass guitar is the rock of any band. It suits musicians who are reliable, don’t need to show off but just enjoy holding down a groove.
The strings are tuned like the four bottom strings of a guitar, but lower – so it’s easy to change from one to the other. Actually, it’s the same as the four strings on a double bass, so lots of people play both!
Most people who play bass started on the guitar, but just preferred the feel of playing bass lines. In lots of bands the singer also plays bass guitar, as the tune has a good foundation from the bass.
We teach the guitar in schools across the borough and at Newham Music Academy our after-school and Saturday music centre. To enquire about lessons please email info@newham-music.org.uk or call us on 020 3598 6260.
