Newham Music appoints Jonny Boux as Chief Executive
7 August 2026
Newham Music has appointed Jonny Boux as its next Chief Executive. He will take up the role on 1 January 2027.
Jonny joins Newham Music from Ambition Aspire Achieve, a Newham-based charity supporting children and young people, particularly those who are vulnerable, disadvantaged or have disabilities and additional needs. As Chief Executive, he has led the organisation through a significant period of growth and development.
Previously, Jonny led Inspire!, an education partnership in Hackney, working closely with schools, employers and young people to widen access to opportunity and progression. He brings extensive senior leadership experience across the charity, education and youth sectors, together with a deep understanding of Newham and its communities.
Alongside his professional experience, Jonny has a longstanding connection to music with more than 30 years’ experience performing, recording and touring in the UK, Europe and the United States. He has released music and secured placements in television, film and other media. He is passionate about the role music can play in developing creativity, confidence, identity and opportunity for children and young people.
Chris Brannick, Chair of Trustees, said:
“Jonny brings strong strategic leadership, a deep understanding of Newham and a lifelong connection to music. His professional experience and commitment to children and young people make him exceptionally well placed to lead Newham Music through its next phase of development. Jonny shares the Board’s ambition to deepen Newham Music’s impact across the borough, extend opportunities for children, young people and communities, and keep artistic excellence at the heart of its work.”
Jonny succeeds John Bergin, who retires at the end of December after ten years as Chief Executive. Under John’s leadership, Newham Music became an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation and, as the borough’s designated Music Hub Lead Organisation, expanded its annual reach to more than 21,000 children and young people. The Board and staff thank John for his exceptional contribution.
Jonny Boux said:
“I am delighted to be joining Newham Music. The organisation has an outstanding record of creating ambitious and inclusive musical opportunities for children, young people and communities across the borough. I want every child and young person in Newham to have the opportunity to discover their creativity, develop their musical voice and experience the difference that music can make.”
As Newham Music looks ahead, the organisation is well placed to build on its achievements, with Jonny Boux’s leadership and commitment to Newham’s communities and young people shaping its continued development and impact.
