Newham Music: Summer Programme

We are thrilled to announce our Newham Music Summer programme, featuring an array of engaging events and workshops. Our summer programme includes a variety of musical activities designed for all ages and skill levels. Please check the list of workshops below.
23-26 July
1-4pm each day
Enjoy acting, singing, movement and crafts? Stampede your way into a showcase based on songs from The Lion King with a short performance piece for friends and family on the last day. For 7-10 year olds, no experience required.
25 July
6-9pm
An introduction to singing for adult beginners. Choose your song style and learn ways to make it sound good. Our experienced vocal teacher will focus on different genres, including pop & rock, musical theatre, jazz & blues, and classical. The workshop will cover finding your voice, vocal skills, breathing technique, and relaxation.
30 July-1 August

Showcase 6-7pm on 1 August
Join Newham Music’s Studio Sessions team to make a mixtape this summer! This workshop is for 12-17 year olds interested in writing and recording original music. Across 3 days, you will create, compose, and record your own ideas and lyrics. For all levels and abilities – no experience necessary, just bring enthusiasm!
31 July, 7 August, 14 August
12-5pm
Newham Music’s Early Years team will pop up around the borough at Newham Housing Service’s Community Fun Days. Join in with our Sound Garden and musical activities for 0-7 year olds.
6-8 August
Workshops 1-4pm
Improve your vocal technique, write a song and record your creation! By the end of the week you’ll be singing with more confidence and you’ll have contributed to a group song. For 12-16 year olds who have experience of singing and wish to develop vocal and songwriting skills.
6 August
7-9pm
Newham Music teacher Emma Scarr hosts a folk music session. All are welcome to bring an instrument and play along with others to traditional tunes from Ireland and beyond. The core musicians will play mostly Irish, English and Scottish music, and tunes and songs from all cultures are very welcome. All are welcome to come along to sit, listen and enjoy. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.

Step into a world where jazz harmonies intertwine with mesmerising digital art, where tasty food and drinks awaken your taste buds, and where a relaxing ambiance soothes your senses. Jus Jammin is an immersive celebration of art and music, curated by Soul and Sound CIC to captivate your heart and mind.

Newham Music Hub will open for free instrument drop-in sessions on selected dates in July and August. We’ll have various instruments available, including grand piano, guitar, ukulele, violin, cello and drums. All ages and experience welcome!
Booking is not essential, but fill in a form if you would like to guarantee instrument availability at a certain time.

E20 Grooves vocalists will perform at Rosetta Arts’ celebration for South Asian Heritage month on 22 August. We are looking for 9-15 year olds who have experience of singing Hindustani classical and folk song to join our rehearsals and performance.
22 August
10am-4pm
A workshop day for young instrumentalists to learn about devising and composing music. In groups, you will try out different approaches to arranging music and improvising, in creative and fun activities. The workshop is aimed at 10-16 year olds who can play at least 5 notes on their instrument up to more experienced ensemble players.
26 – 30 August
10am – 3pm daily
Sing songs from musicals and create a show at Newham Music’s summer course! Across five days, participants will learn stagecraft, storytelling, scriptwriting and theatre skills; develop confidence and improve their singing technique; and gain tips about working in the performing arts. The group will devise and create a show together, leading to a performance at the end of the week.
For 12 – 16 year olds
24, 26, 28, 29 August
Develop your songwriting craft with singer-songwriter and Newham Music educator Emma Scarr. During this four-day course, Emma and guest songwriters will give you starting points for writing lyrics, creating melodies and making chord patterns. On the final day, you will have the opportunity to record your new song and perform in an informal open mic. Choose from one day or the whole course.
For over 18s. All experiences welcome. Pay what you can.
