Newham Primary Choir of the Year

Newham Primary Choir of the Year is our annual Primary Choir competition, bringing primary choirs together for a shared afternoon of performance, creativity and musical storytelling. The event invites schools to prepare a song of their choice while also taking part in massed singing and a group songwriting challenge, supported by accessible digital resources and on-the-day workshops.

Participating choirs benefit from high-quality musical experiences, the opportunity to perform in a professional setting, and the chance to collaborate with peers from across the borough. Teachers and pupils alike gain from expert feedback from professional judges, resources written by Newham children, and a celebratory concert experience that builds confidence, raises aspirations and strengthens choral practice across schools.

2025’s winners, St Francis, have gone on to be invited to several other performance opportunities across Newham, including Windrush day events at Newham Hospital and the Christmas lights switch on at Stratford station.

Participating choirs receive:

  • A free digital resource pack
  • A free afternoon concert – starring them!
  • A certificate of participation
  • Supportive professional judges’ feedback
  • The chance to lift the Newham Primary Choir of the Year trophy
