NM Summer School Starts
14 August 2019
Our two Summer Schools kicked off this week with young musicians from around East London!
The Summer Groove welcomed children and young people with beginning instrumental skills to join other local musicians for a fun week of practice, play-time and individual support from a specialized team of professional musicians. For some, it will be the first time they have played in an orchestra setting.
For the more experienced musicians, the Proms Go Pop summer school is providing a supportive setting for individual growth and strengthening musical skills with like-minded peers. Some of the most talented young musicians in Newham, these players will be invited to join Newham Music when we perform in the Royal Albert Hall this November.
The summer school groups will be preparing for two local performances – the first this Saturday, 17 August at Lister Community School, E13 9AE. The second very special performance will take place on 31 August in Royal Albert Dock. Part of this summer’s Join the Docks Festival, the EFG Jazz Fest Summer Stage will play host to an outstanding lineup of musicians throughout the day which our groups will kick off. You won’t want to miss your chance to see these talented young musicians performing locally before making their big break at the Music for Youth Proms in November!
