We are thrilled to announce our Newham Music Summer programming, featuring an array of engaging workshops over the next four weeks! Our lineup includes a variety of musical activities designed for all ages and skill levels. Please check the list of workshops below.

Go Wild: Junior Musical in a Week

23-26 July 2024 

1-4pm each day

Enjoy acting, singing, movement and crafts? Stampede your way into a showcase based on songs from The Lion King with a short performance piece for friends and family on the last day. For 7-10 year olds, no experience required.



Find Your Voice 

Thursday 25 July


An introduction to singing for adult beginners. Choose your song style and learn ways to make it sound good.  Our experienced vocal teacher will focus on different genres, including pop & rock, musical theatre, jazz & blues, and classical. The workshop will cover: Finding your voice Vocal skills Breathing technique Relaxation Together we will overcome challenges, build confidence, and you’ll have the chance to perform for each other.



Mixtape in a Week 

30 July-1 August

Workshops 10am-5pm

Showcase  6-7pm on 1 August

Join Newham Music’s Studio Sessions team to make a mixtape this summer!

This workshop is for 12-17 year olds interested in writing and recording original music. 

Across 3 days, you will create, compose, and record your own ideas and lyrics.

During the workshops you will:  

  • Learn music production, recording and beat making skills
  • Take part in creative writing and lyric workshops
  • Collaborate with professional musicians from Newham Music
  • Meet other young music enthusiasts
  • Work with others to produce our own mixtape for a showcase

For all levels and abilities – no experience necessary, just bring enthusiasm!



A Song in A Week 

6-8 August

Workshops – 1-4pm

Open Mic – 5-7pm on 8 August

Improve your vocal technique, write a song and record your creation! By the end of the week you’ll be singing with more confidence and you’ll have contributed to a group song. You’ll also have the opportunity to sing in an open mic event for young singer-songwriters. For 12-16 year olds who have experience of singing and wish to develop vocal and songwriting skills.


Jus Jammin – Soul and Sound 

10 August


Step into a world where jazz harmonies intertwine with mesmerising digital art, where tasty food and drinks awaken your taste buds, and where a relaxing ambiance soothes your senses. Jus Jammin is an immersive celebration of art and music, curated to captivate your heart and mind.

This special Jus Jammin event, we will be rasing funds for the Soul and Sound CIC organistion! All donations will go towards suporting Soul and Sound CIC to provide more plant based cooking workshops in the community for free!

Pop down, grab yourself and rum punch and support the cause


Traditional Tunes 

6 August

7 – 9PM

https://www.soulandsound.comNewham Music teacher Emma Scarr hosts a folk music session. All are welcome to bring an instrument and play along with others to traditional tunes from Ireland and beyond. The core musicians will play mostly Irish, English and Scottish music, and tunes and songs from all cultures are very welcome. The general session format is that someone starts a tune, and those who know it join in. Feel free to bring along your own tunes and songs to lead, or quietly play along as you pick it up. We all learn from each other! All are welcome to come along to sit, listen and enjoy. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.



Family Musical Play

10-11am + 11am-12pm

Date: TBC

Musical fun for all the family! Creative musical play sessions for children aged up to 7 and their families. Join us for: songs and sounds, movement and dance, stories and games. Listen, play and connect together. All children must be accompanied by a participating adult.
