Safe & Sound

We are delighted to announce the launch of the Safe & Sound Project— a collaborative partnership between Newham Music and The Flotsam Sessions. This project is dedicated to creating welcoming spaces where individuals from all backgrounds can come together to explore a rich variety of musical styles through engaging community-centred workshops.

At the heart of Safe & Sound is the Flotsam Orchestra, built around a core group of performers and a set repertoire designed to be shared in key community settings and inspired by musical traditions from around the world. These performances will be delivered in partnership with organisations, charities and community-focused spaces across Newham and the wider East London area, working directly with groups that have a longstanding history of supporting immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking communities.

Safe & Sound sessions will initially include:

  • Live music performance.
  • Interactive elements encouraging audience participation.
  • Song and dance workshops.
  • Informal conversations over tea, coffee, and biscuits.

There will also be traineeship opportunities available for musicians with refugee, immigrant and or asylum-seeking backgrounds.

Safe & Sound is a celebration of creativity, culture, and connection. It aims to foster community cohesion while supporting professional growth for musicians from all walks of life.

More details to be released soon.
