School Holiday Programmes

During the school holidays, we host a variety of workshops for all ages and experience levels at Newham Music Hub: Westfield. Below are examples of holiday activities we’ve recently delivered, many of which take place in every half term and holiday period.

All Hands On Deck – Free DJ Masterclass

Free DJ Masterclass for adult beginners. More to come!

Opera in a Weekend: The Magic Flute

Children aged 7-11 learnt all about opera as well as songs and scenes from Mozart’s The Magic Flute. They performed alongside professional opera singers to friends and family.

Winter Songs

Singing group focusing on winter songs in an informal drop-in vocal session for adults.

Songwriting for Wellbeing

Newham Music partnered with the Sickle Cell Society and hosted a half term songwriting activity focusing on sickle cell.

Storytime Adventures: A Musical Journey Through Africa & the Caribbean

Children aged 5-8 and families explored the rich traditions of African and Caribbean culture through music, stories, and crafts!

Go Wild! Junior Musical in a Week

Fun musical theatre workshops for 7-10 year olds. Included a showcase based on songs from The Lion King with a short performance piece for friends and family!

Find Your Voice

An introduction to singing for adult beginners. The workshop covered vocal skills, breathing technique and relaxation.

Come & Play: Instrument drop-in

Free instrument drop-in sessions for all ages and experiences. We had various instruments available, including grand piano, guitar, ukulele, violin, cello and drums. More to come!

Mixtape in a Week

For 12-17 year olds interested in writing and recording original music. Across 3 days, young people created, composed, and recorded their own ideas and lyrics.

A Song in a Week

For 12-16 year olds who wanted to develop vocal and songwriting skills. They recorded and performed their new song!

Gig School

For 12-17 year olds to gain experience playing in a band, and perform together. More to come!

Open Mic

A chance for young musicians in our community to perform for each other and a friendly audience!

Summer Songwriting

Workshop for adults to develop their songwriting craft. A four-day course with guest songwriters to provide starting points for writing lyrics, creating melodies and making chord patterns.

Musical in a Week

Across five days, participants learnt stagecraft, storytelling, scriptwriting and theatre skills. The group devised and created a show together, leading to a performance at the end of the week.

Traditional Tunes

All welcome to bring an instrument and play along with others to traditional tunes from Ireland and beyond. The core musicians play mostly Irish, English and Scottish music, and tunes and songs from all cultures are very welcome.

Improvising and Composing workshop

A workshop day for young instrumentalists to learn about devising and composing music.

South Asian Song Taster Workshop

Taster session for 7-12 year olds and their families to explore Hindustani classical and folk songs

Come and Play: Taiko Drum

Free Japanese Taiko Drumming workshops during the holidays for all ages!
