Write a Song 2027

In the Spring and Summer term of 2017 Newham Music will be delivering WRITE A SONG.

Newham Music teachers will be going into Newham schools facilitating songwriting with KS2 classes, ending with a brand new song written by students, on a subject of their choice! Participating schools will come together in June/July for a showcase, where classes will perform their songs to each other.

Write a Song 2026

In 2026, students chose a subject area they were studying to inspire their songs!

Schools took part in a series of workshops that resulted in new songs written by the students, facilitated by a songwriter from Newham Music.

Students increased their confidence in composition, writing and collaboration by expanding their experience of various musical genres.

You can listen to the songs written in 2026 here.

Write a Song 2025

In 2025, students from Newham’s schools unleashed their creativity by writing songs inspired by their local area, through a partnership with Newham Music and Rendezvous Projects!

Alongside Newham Music teachers, students wrote their own original songs reflective of the borough’s local culture, history, and heritage, culminating in a prestigious showcase that took place at Stratford Town Hall and saw schools enthusiastically perform for an audience of their local community.

Students had the unique opportunity to take inspiration from Rendezvous Projects’ Sound Waves project, uncovering and celebrating 60 years of music in Newham.

Inspiration for the songs ranged from the Newham Monitoring Project to the Boleyn Cinema and more!

By clicking here you can view the songs written as part of this year’s Write A Song project as well as previous years.
