Youth Ambassadors

The Youth Ambassadors (a group of young musicians aged 11-17) participating in a workshop led by Build It Black Up.

Newham Music’s Youth Ambassadors are a group of young people, aged 11-17, who have demonstrated leadership skills as well as a keen interest in strengthening their development into the creative industries.

We run monthly Youth Ambassador sessions which focus on strategic planning for Newham Music as an organisation, as well as taking leadership roles in upcoming projects and events.

Here are some of the core beliefs of the Newham Music Youth Ambassadors:

  • We want to talk to our peers about music, why it’s important and how we can access it.
  • We want to share the benefits of music and how it impacts our wellbeing.
  • We want to represent our communities through music, making it more inclusive.
  • We want to encourage young people in Newham to explore music.
  • We want to remove negative stereotypes and show that music is for everyone.

When asked what it’s like being a Youth Ambassador, this is what the 2024/25 cohort had to say:

“Fun, creative, make new friends, earn money, people are friendly.”

“Newham Music has been a great place to grow as a musician.”

“If you want a place to bond with people who love music, come to Newham Music.”

“Simply inspiring, inspire the next generation, inspire Newham’s young musicians.”

The Youth Ambassadors group is supported by the Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund.
